Balinese character from the Wayang Wong, Twalen is Rama’s servant and Merdah’s father. Twalen means old/ ancient (it expresses a popular good wisdom). It was born thanks to a divinity called Siwa and was sent to Earth with the characteristic of a good and honest man with good advices. Despite its divine’s origins, Twalen is a chubby and clumsy character which gives a comical aspect to its character. Compared as a lucky charm it is also an erudit one, Twalen does have the favours of the audience. Servant of the Good, Twalen and Merdah are opposed to Delem and Sangut.
