A character from the Barong Danse, Dewi Kalika is the most sought-after apprentice of Dewi Durga and, just like her, comes from the Mahabharata Kanti Seraya theatre. Dewi Kalika has incredible powers which enable her, for instance, to turn into a wild boar or a bird. She can also personnify Rangda, and when she’s fighting the Barong Ket army, her appearance often provokes her ennemies to get into a fright : the bravest warriors are bewitched and see their « kriss » turn against them, leading them irremissibly to suicide. It will take the intervention of
Barong Ket to save them. She is also traditionnally the cimetery keeper. In the hindou religion, she represents death, destruction and terror.
