This character is from the Barongs family. Bangkal means « old wild boar »in Balinese. He is associated to the celebratory pricessions for Galungan and Kuningan (the new years). These two celebrations involve eating pork, which explains the emergence of Barong Bankgal. The village children often parade through the streets with a little Bangkal, in a non sacred version, mimicking their eldest and herewith perpetruating the tradition of Barong Bangkal.
