Amaq Abir is a mask from Lombok and the principal character of the eponym play. There are several versions of this play, all inspired by the old Indonesian traditions.
Amaq Abir is strong and charismatic, but he is also nice and gentle.
In one of the versions of the play, Amaq Abir saves Idayu, the daughter of the aristocrat Ida, from the claws of the demon Raksasa.
Amaq Tempenges and Idayu were together in the garden when the kidnapping happened, but he was powerless. Ida almost killed the young men in a fit of anger. He finally didn’t but he commanded Amaq Tempenges to find a strong enough man to beat Raksasa and get his daughter back. This is why Amaq Tempenges found Amaq Abir.
This theater can include up to 20 different masked characters.
